Plaxo Signs Five Deals to
“Plaxo-Enable” Commercial Applications

User adoption accelerates as Plaxo Network reaches three million registered users

September 14, 2004 (MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.) — Plaxo, Inc., creator of the fastest growing contact management software and network, today announced that five companies—ColSpace, Global Systems, Greenlight Wireless, Modomail and Trekmail—have signed deals to use Plaxo’s open application program interface (API) to “Plaxo-enable” their Web sites and applications. Plaxo-enabled products are substantially more robust and valuable to users who benefit by having their address books synchronized with the Plaxo Network, giving them anytime, anywhere access to the most up-to-date contact information for their friends, family and colleagues.

“These five partners add more applications to the growing Plaxo Network,” said Todd Masonis, founder and vice president of products, Plaxo. “We are creating a better experience for existing Plaxo members by offering a variety of products and services that are Plaxo-enabled and eliminating the hassle of updating contact information across disparate applications, systems and digital devices.”

Plaxo-Enabled

ColSpace, a developer of collaborative workspace software solutions, partnered with Plaxo to allow users to synchronize their Outlook Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Notes with the company’s CortexPro and Digital Office enterprise suite. “Plaxo will update and ensure that all contact information in users’ address books is kept current across our entire application, something that had previously been a tedious manual process,” said Matthew Greenhouse, CEO and co-founder, ColSpace.

Global Systems Group’s Viewtivity business portal is a suite of business tools aimed at small and medium-size enterprises, combining contact, activity and email management with document management and storage; calendars and schedules; text messaging; and an enterprise-wide intranet and newsfeed facility, among other functions. “Contacts, together with linked and indexed activities are a central feature of any organization,” said Andrew Appleton, CEO, Global Systems Group. “By embedding Plaxo into Viewtivity, we will be bringing the benefits of address book synchronization to the small corporate user for the first time ever.”

Greenlight Wireless’s Skweezer is a web-based application that allows users to browse web content via any web-enabled wireless handheld device, such as Smartphones and PDAs. The Plaxo API allows Greenlight Wireless to create a wireless-enabled version of Plaxo that is ideally suited for use on handheld devices, allowing users to access their list of contacts and address messages in Skweezer’s integrated mail utility. “Plaxo’s portability complements that of Skweezer. Users can change wireless plans and devices and will still have unfettered access to their Plaxo and Skweezer accounts,” said Mark Sieve, president, Greenlight Wireless.

Modomail is a Washington-based email service provider. By integrating Plaxo 2.0, Modomail is the first email service to synchronize contact information between a service’s webmail address book and the Plaxo Network. “By Plaxo-enabling our users’ accounts, we are ensuring that their address books are always current, whether updates are made in Outlook, Plaxo’s website, Modomail’s address book, or any other Plaxo linked service or device,” said Lee Wright, founder, Modomail.

Trekmail offers a suite of voice email and messaging services to wireless operators, enabling handheld device users to quickly compose and reply to messages and email via telephone by dictating voice messages that are then transmitted as MP3 audio files. “By integrating with Plaxo’s synchronization network, Trekmail automatically learns users’ phone books. The Plaxo synchronization network solves an important problem for us by providing Trekmail with constantly updated contacts, and is by far superior to other synchronization engines we evaluated,” said Brian McConnell, founder and president, Trekmail, Inc.

Plaxo also announced today that it has surpassed three million registered users for Plaxo 2.0™, just three months after hitting the two million user mark. The free service continues to double its installed user base every six months. To date, more than 50 million unique individuals have responded to Plaxo members’ requests to update their contact information. This sustained rapid adoption of Plaxo 2.0™ greatly increases the value of the Plaxo Network, which has become the largest real-time network for Internet users to stay connected to their business and personal contacts all over the world.

Plaxo 2.0™

Plaxo 2.0™ seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, and PDA devices via the Outlook platform. Plaxo 2.0™ works by enabling users to choose contacts in their address book from whom they want to receive updated information. Users then send Plaxo Update Requests to the selected contacts, allowing the contact to reply either by e-mail or via a secure Web site. Plaxo processes the replies and integrates updated information into the user's address book.

Users join the Plaxo Network by downloading Plaxo 2.0™ or signing up for Plaxo Online™. The benefits of membership include automatic updates to their address book whenever a contact’s information changes, Web-based access to their address book, calendar, tasks, and notes information, as well as synchronization and backup. At all times, members of the service control how their information is used and with whom it is shared.

Plaxo adheres to the strictest security standards, taking the same precautions as major banks and financial institutions. Plaxo uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology for all communication both on the Web and in the Outlook Platform. In addition, Plaxo has adopted one of the industry’s most stringent privacy policies.
