November 22, 2004 (MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.) — Plaxo, Inc., creator of the fastest-growing consumer Internet service for updating and accessing contact information, today launched two innovative mobile premium services, Plaxo™ Mobile Access and Plaxo Send-to-Phone, and a productivity tool that eliminates duplicate address book entries. These premium offerings are the first of many significant revenue-generating services Plaxo expects to offer to its four million members. The basic Plaxo service, first introduced in 2003, will remain free.
Plaxo Mobile Access premium service enables Plaxo members to directly access their Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express contacts, calendar events, and tasks from their WAP-enabled mobile phones and handheld wireless devices. With no need to use synchronization cradles or select which phone numbers to fit into a mobile phone.s limited contact folder, Plaxo members can rely on connecting with anyone listed in their up-to-date address books anywhere, at any time. With Plaxo Mobile Access service, users can also dial phone numbers directly from their Plaxo contact list.
Through a partnership with Vazu, Inc. (http://www.vazu.com), a start-up focusing on wireless transfer of information from a PC to mobile phones, the new Plaxo Send-to-Phone premium service enables Plaxo members to easily transfer phone numbers from their Plaxo Online address book to their mobile phone with just one click.
“Our members have been telling us that they want their contacts automatically updated and accessible on their cell phones,” said Rikk Carey, executive vice president of Engineering and Operations for Plaxo. “We think Plaxo premium services confirm our commitment in making Plaxo an indispensable service that follows them wherever they are — on their desktop, mobile phone, PDA or Web browser.”
Additionally, Plaxo is offering a third premium service, Plaxo Duplicate Contact Remover. This service is intended for Plaxo members with large address books and uses the company’s patent-pending merge technology to clean up and delete duplicate contact entries.
The three new premium products include the following key features:
Pricing and Availability
Plaxo premium mobile services are accessible as free downloads for a limited time and Plaxo Duplicate Contact Remover premium service is available as a trial. Specific pricing for Plaxo premium services will be announced later this year.
New Plaxo-enhanced Services
Plaxo also announced separately today feature-rich enhancements to its basic Plaxo service, including Birthday Reminders and Holiday Lists, along with new partnerships with well-known online retailers, including Barnes & Noble.com and RedEnvelope. Birthday Reminders and Holiday List services are available now to members as part of their free basic Plaxo service or the Plaxo service can be downloaded at http://www.plaxo.com. A co-branded Plaxo and iPrint online print shop is expected to become part of the Plaxo service next month.
