Kuan Archer

Senior Vice President, Product Development, Rovi Corporation

Kuan is currently Senior Vice President of Product Development at Rovi Corporation. In this role he is responsible for driving the Internet Platform and Web Services aspects of Rovi's cross-platform media guidance and connected device initiatives. As head of the Web Services Platform division, Kuan manages the teams responsible for building the web services and software backbones powering the content delivery, personalization, advanced advertising & clickstream analysis, Search, and Media Recognition product lines across the wide range of Rovi's supported connected devices and platforms. These include Consumer Electronics devices and Digital Video Recorders in the United States and Europe, mobile devices such as iPads and Android phones, dozens of high-volume web sites via hosted portal technology, and millions of cable and satellite set top boxes. Previous to his tenure at Rovi, Kuan was Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the TV Guide Vision Group at Gemstar-TV Guide International, which was purchased by Macrovision Solutions Corporation in 2008. Prior to TV Guide, Kuan was a Senior Director of Development at Symantec Corporation, where he was in charge of a number of client- and server-based internet security offerings in the Consumer Products and Services division. Before Symantec, Kuan spent nearly a decade at Microsoft Corporation in a number of engineering management and R&D roles across a number of web authoring, e-commerce, and web server product lines. Previous to his tenure at Microsoft, Kuan was a Technical Analyst in the financial industry. Kuan received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Mathematics and Computer Science. He received his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Technology Management from the University of Washington. Kuan holds multiple patents and patents pending in the areas of Web Services connectivity and Internet Security, and has been a featured speaker at a number of notable industry events and Universities.
