BBBS provides one-to-one mentoring for vulnerable children, mainly from single-parent families. During the past 6 years, the San Diego County agency has increased the number of childen served from 200 to almost 1,700 served in 2010. The San Diego program features Operation Bigs at Camp Pendleton, Pt Loma, and Coronado, providing mentors for children of deployed Marine and Navy military parents. Results show that kids stay in school, stay off drugs, out of gangs and greatly im prove self-esteem. |
