Jennifer GedoniusAt Industrial Steel and Wire Co, I started out as file clerk in October of 1995 and was praised for fixing the enormous back load of filing that the company had from the lack of a file clerk for several months. In this job, I greeted visitors, directed them to the appropriate co-worker. I also sorted and received and distributed mail and packages. I enjoyed using my organizational skills and interacting with my coworkers and visitors. My talents were recognized by the account department supervisor, and when a position came open in the accounting department, and in November of 1995 I was transferred to the accounting department. I was responsible for the accurate billing of customers, issuing credit memorandums, order entry, and assisted with the yearly audit. I was praised on several occasions for my effect and accurate work. In May of 1999, the shipping department was in need of a shipping clerk, and I was nominated for the position. I gladly accepted the position, and enjoyed working in a warehouse and shipping dock environment. I was responsible for the verification and preparation of shipment documents, such as Bill of Lading, material certifications, material description tags, dock audits, and various courier tracking labels (UPS, DHL, FedEx). For our International shipments, I prepared shipment documentation such as Commercial Invoices, Canadian Customs Invoice, and NAFTA certificates for Internal. I streamlined the documentation process for export shipments for all divisions by creating forms in Microsoft Word, and trained all supervisory personnel in the proper use and procedures of these documents. I corresponded with logistics companies to arrange shipment pickups. Eventually I was responsible for the maintenance and organization of ASTM material certifications for all product lines. In February of 2009, due to the poor economic conditions, I was laid off. I parted from Industrial Steel & Wire on very good terms, and was praised as a good employee, for which they were regretful of having to let go. |
