My research consisted of observing the effects of antibiotics on various strains of flu bacteria (Haemophilus Influenzae). I also researched the disparate effects of antibiotics on planktonic bacteria and bacteria grown over biofilms. I began each of my trials by seeding colonies of the necessary strains of bacteria. Once a suitable number of colonies had been grown, the bacteria were added to a number of agar plates. A specific concentration of antibiotic solution was added to each of the plates in order to determine the specific concentration of antibiotic that was necessary to kill the bacteria colonies. Through my research, I uncovered evidence that antibiotics kill planktonic bacteria far more easily than bacteria taken from over biofilms.
