David P. Martin

Corporate Host, Schlesinger Associates

With more than twenty-five years to his credit, David Martin brings a wide range of experience in arts administration, organizational management, development, and public relations to his position as the Associate Director of the Cecilia Marta Dance Co. Having established a collaborative relationship with the artistic director Cecilia Marta, his efforts are to help build a foundation for CMDC’s sustainability and growth as a captivating multicultural performing arts organization. Mr. Martin’s commitment to the arts and entertainment fields is an extension of his education and work as an artiste, writer, and production manager, but also speaks to his personal passion for dance as a form of uninhibited expression. A graduate of Howard University’s College of Fine Arts, David obtained a BFA in Theater Arts prior to moving to New York City, where shortly thereafter he received a scholarship to the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Equipped as a theater professional, he pursued a modeling hobby, which turned into a career and opportunities to work with prominent fashion designers, commercial advertisers, and publishers. Furthering his interest in theater, David graduated from an intensive program of the Commercial Theater Institute for Broadway and Off-Broadway producers. He also attended New York University and completed its program in Arts Administration. Overall as an administrator, David has made several successful partnerships allowing him to utilize his skills to enhance managerial effectiveness, fundraising strategies, and relationships that assist in the development of more functional workplaces. Of David’s professional contributions, what is a common thread are his diverse capabilities and resourcefulness from which he draws to support and strengthen his work and affiliation with organizations from dissimilar fields. As the Regional Team Leader, David provides leadership, guidance, and administrative support for Cicatelli Associates' team of peer mentors in their work as healthcare advocates for the PWA Leadership Training Institute in New York City. He is an active mentor and a member of GMHC’s Consumer Advisory Board. David attests that giving back to youth and underserved communities is one of his most rewarding achievements. Previously as the Managing Editor and Consultant, he assisted the development and production of PULSE Magazine published by GMAD. He enhanced the quality of its editorial content, which addressed issues within black gay America, in an effort to build a stronger understanding of and among this community. While the Business Manager, he improved structure and implemented procedures for the daily activities of LaDuca Shoes, a dance footwear manufacturer, retailer, and supplier to theatrical productions and entertainment professionals. During his six-year tenure, David held the positions of Director of Membership, Director of Community Relations and Web Development, and Director of Communications and Public Affairs at In The Life Media, a nonprofit educational corporation that produces In the Life, the multiple award-winning newsmagazine on public television. His influence affected the improved function in the areas of community outreach, fundraising, media relations, web management, and volunteerism. David’s approach with each client is unique; however, what is crucial to any successful venture is defining a range of goals for the organization and finding a sustainable resolution to any challenge. Previous clients have made note of his professionalism, reliability, and commitment as he often achieves more than what is expected.
