Michael Vande Woude was appointed Executive Vice President for Citigroup in 2004 to lead a high-powered team of program directors and managers to reengineer hardware procurement processes and tools for the IT Infrastructure. Michael has excelled at guiding Citigroup through an enterprise-wide program expansion that administers a $12B annual spend. He has developed and nurtured relationships with key equipment vendors and service providers such as IBM, Dell, HP, Microsoft, Cisco, Nortel, Avaya, and AT&T to establish a global technology and telecommunications support network. As a result of his leadership and performance, Michael secured a dramatic reduction in software development and licensing fees by painstakingly evaluating and selecting approximately 10 Reseller vendors to serve as primary providers of software services. Through extensive contract negotiations with Reuters for market data transfer services, Michael captured more than $11M in total savings. He also resolved issues with software license re-harvesting as well as inventory and vendor management that eliminated a projected $700M reserve and transformed it into a $200M save. In addition, Michael conducted an intensive analysis of data center operations performance and identified an opportunity to eliminate multiple systems, forms, approvals, and databases that resulted in significantly improved cycle times. In his previous role as a Senior Vice President at Citigroup, which he held from 1996 until his promotion in 2004, Michael oversaw the systems and telecommunications infrastructure targeting private client technologies. In this capacity, he directed systems management for Smith Barney with a $68M budget as well as operations in 20 capital markets across North America. He also managed the global video conferencing initiative and supported technical operations in Guam, Puerto Rico, and Alaska. Before joining Citigroup, Michael was the Group Vice President of Telecommunications, Systems, and Communications for Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith, where he served from 1982 until 1996. Michael led a team of 200 specialists across 14 regional computing centers with 125 global market data contracts worth $270M. His group oversaw retail IT and telecommunications systems that supported more than 3K employees with a $150M budget. He directed an enterprise system conversion project that updated technology and telecommunications equipment and products at 600 corporate facilities. Michael is a dynamic executive with the ability to guide teams and organizations in a rapidly changing business environment. His demonstrated track record in developing innovative solutions and surpassing organizational objectives while improving bottom-line profits are further evidence of his passionate leadership style. He undertook rigorous coursework, receiving a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Information Systems and Business Administration from the State University of New York, Empire State College. Michael served as the Chairman of the Market Data Sub Committee and as a member of the Technology Management Committee for the Securities Industry of America. (now SIFMA).
