grier linProfessor & President, International Leadership Institute Dr. Grier C I Lin completed undergraduate program at the National Taipei Institute of Technology in 1965. He came to Australia in 1968, commenced Master of Engineering at the University of New South Wales in 1969 and received a PhD in 1972. Dr. Grier Lin is the Founder and President of the International Leadership Institute. He is the Founder of the prestigious International Manufacturing Leaders Forum. At the University of South Australia he is the Professor of Manufacturing Technology and Management, the Director of the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing Research, and was the Head of School of Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, and the Deputy Vice President (International) at the University of South Australia. Previously, he was a Visiting Professor at Cornell University(USA), Cambridge University(UK), and the National Cheng Kung University(Taiwan). He was the Executive Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Foundation Director of the Centre for Manufacturing and Automation and the Founder of the Institute of Manufacturing Management and Technology at the University of New South Wales, Australia. He has many years of industrial, teaching, and research experience in Australia, the United States, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Jordan, China, and Taiwan. He has been invited as a Senior Advisor of foreign technical aid projects by the Government of Taiwan. He was also an International Advisor of the former Governor of Taiwan. He was invited as a Member of Parliament(Legislator) in Taiwan from 2002 to 2005. Professor Lin is a pioneer of internationalisation of education. He developed and offered the first Masters Program offered entirely offshore among all Australian universities. The Centre for Advanced Manufacturing research established by Professor Lin at the University of South Australia in 1991 is the most successful and largest manufacturing research centre internationally. It has an average of 16 research staff 4 support staff and 25 research students. He has published six books and over two hundred and fifty papers and has received prizes and outstanding awards for his research and publications. He has been invited to be a keynote speaker for more than 20 international conferences. His teaching, research, and consulting interests include: leadership of the future; diagnosis and development of innovation capability; operations and technology diagnosis; product, process and organisational innovation; hydrogen-n-demand technology; automation; optimisation and implementation of computer integrated manufacturing; virtual CIM; intelligent manufacturing systems; virtual design for manufacturing; global manufacturing strategy. His research and development has attracted substantial grants and support from the governments and companies both within Australia and overseas. Dr. Grier Lin is a Fellow of the International CIM Society, and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. In addition, he has been an Editor and the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing for over 13 years, an editor and a member of editorial board of many international journals. In recognition of his quiet achievement, he was awarded the honor of the Inaugural 2008 Unsung Hero of South Australian Science by the Minister for Science and the Chief Scientist. |
