As Art Director, Latin American Division, for Daniels & Roberts Advertising & Design, I was responsible for generating concepts and design for accounts such as Sony, Microsoft, Polaroid & Acer Computers for the Latin American market and Sensormatic, Dole and Coulter for the American market. Throughout these projects, I created and designed print and TV advertising, packaging, catalogues and POP materials. Over that year, my primary focus was on the marketing and creative design for the launch of Mircrosoft Windows 95 and Acer Aspire in 10 Latin American countries. -------------------------------- Carlos Plaza / Publishing experience: Lead creative/art director on a number of specialty publications for AMI in Boca Raton, magazines driven by specific newsworthy events, people or trends. Some of the most noteworthy of these include a publication devoted to post 9/11 coverage; a Dale Earnhardt tribute; a Johnny Carson retrospective and many, many others. These magazines were usually delivered in response to a specific news event and were conceptualized, designed and produced in a matter of days—even hours—to maximize their impact on the newsstand. Apart from that I also designed all the covers for their book division and the MiniMags.The last project I developed with AMI was the the art direction and design of SLY Magazine for Sylvester Stallone. As Design Director for Boca Raton magazine, I was responsible for the conceptualization and execution of all design for a 25-year old award-winning upscale South Florida lifestyle magazine; the design of all promotional materials; selected advertising design and the design of all other “collateral” projects. The magazine was one of several publications produced by its company, JES Publishing, projects that include the annual publication of the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, the annual Worth Avenue magazine published by the Worth Avenue Merchants Association and the flagship issue of Mizner’s Dream, an annual publication of the Boca Raton Resort & Club. Incidental design projects included a newsletter for a local country club,The Las Olas Boulevard Map and various pieces associated with the company’s marketing and sales functions. Ancillary responsibilities included supervision of all aspects of magazine production; interface with all vendors; participation in editorial planning and design and associated departmental management and budgeting responsibilities. As Art Director of Media Design Systems/Advertising and Design Systems I was responsible for designing and creating finished art on advertisements and editorial pages for regional sections in national publications such as Architectural Digest and Vogue Magazine including pre-press production on location. My role at Estilo magazine encompassed all aspects of publishing, from the business start-up of the bimonthly arts publication to its marketing, editorial content and design. I conceptualized the product, secured investors and was responsible for it on a hands-on basis from its inception to its production, overseeing a staff of 12. During my tenure at Estilo, I saw circulation rise from 7,000 locally to 25,000 internationally. The magazine was recognized as a successful point of focus for the South American arts community and showcased critically recognized artists of international stature from all disciplines. The magazine was given awards by many Venezuelan groups and by Art Miami,Art Chicago, Fia-Caracas and the Bogota International Art Fair, among others.
