Bruna Juliana PollackStudent University of Massachusetts Amherst undergraduate Bruna Juliana Santos is passionate about food. Whether the subject is the best methods of preserving food to ensure freshness, the manner in which foods are manufactured and packaged, or the steps taken to develop a new meal or beverage, food sciences major Bruna Juliana Santos is fascinated by all aspects of food production and consumption. Entering her first year at UMass Amherst, Bruna Juliana Santos already knew her academic focus. Bruna Juliana Santos’ commitment to her studies is evident: in her first semester at UMass Amherst she achieved a 3.76 GPA and made the Dean’s List. Bruna Juliana Santos is building a solid foundation for working in the food sciences industry; potential future jobs include overseeing food safety compliance, studying how food affects consumers’ sensory systems, or researching the interactions foods have with different micro-organisms. With the future in mind, Bruna Juliana Santos is a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, a nonprofit organization with a 71-year history and members in over 100 countries. As a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, Bruna Juliana Santos benefits from a vast network of food science and technology professionals in academic, government, and industry settings. Additionally, as a member of the organization, Bruna Juliana Santos has access to the institute’s journals, including Food Technology Magazine and The Journal of Food Science. Bruna Juliana Santos is also a member of the Northeast Section of the Institute of Food Technologists. |
