He graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Government. Thomas Wilson attended Tokeneke Elementary School in Darien, Connecticut, where he met his wife in the sixth grade. The couple reside in Tuxedo Park, New York. Thomas Wilson gathers support from community members and presents environmental studies to the Town of Tuxedo’s board members. Promoting clean water, reduced deforestation, low-carbon emissions, and renewable energy, he and the other members of Tuxedo Land Trust have created an alternative plan for economic development. The group enjoys partnerships with various organizations, including the Open Space Institute, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, the Sterling Forest Partnership, and Orange County Land Trust. In an effort to build interstate coalitions and gain support, Thomas Wilson has spoken before the Rockland County Sewer District No. 1; the Washington, D.C. office of the U.S. EPA; and the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
