Elisabeth AnumuResident, University Of Illinois College of Medicine Born in the West African nation of the Republic of Cameroon, Elisabeth Anumu has followed her dream of becoming a doctor of family medicine in the United States via a journey that included eight years of pre-medical and medical training in Germany. A graduate of the University of Ulm, where she received her undergraduate degree and initial medical education, Elisabeth Anumu had a one-year internship at the Klinik am Eichert in Goppingen, Germany. There, she rotated in emergency medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, and anaesthesiology. After earning her certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates to study in the U.S. in 2006, Elisabeth Anumu moved to the Atlanta area to accept a volunteer externship with the Magnolia Medical Clinic. The organization honored her with its Magnolia Medical Clinic Award for volunteerism in March 2008. Accepted into the M.D. program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, Elisabeth Anumu will graduate in 2011 and will become eligible to be certified by the American Board of Family Medicine shortly after receiving her degree. Elisabeth Anumu’s primary areas of interest in her field include pediatric and adolescent medicine, outpatient adult medicine, women’s health, and teaching. While in residency, she has given lectures and PowerPoint presentations on acute gastroenteritis, acute coronary syndrome, diabetes mellitus, and fourth-degree perineal laceration in obstetrics and gynecology. Elisabeth Anumu has already become a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She donates to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For recreation, Elisabeth Anumu likes to play volleyball and tennis, pursue activities in the great outdoors with friends and family, and read. Her favorite book is The Key: The Missing Secret for Attracting Anything You Want by Joe Vitale. Elisabeth Anumu speaks German, French, and English fluently, and she has recently begun to learn Spanish. |
