John HagenInspector of Police, Milwaukee Police Department John Hagen joined the Milwaukee Police Department as a police aide (cadet) in 1980 and served as a police officer in District Seven and the Gang Crimes Unit until his promotion to detective in 1989. As a detective and lieutenant of detectives he served in every investigative unit of the Department including several highly successful task forces. Upon his promotiond to Captain, John served as the first Director of the Intelligence Fusion Center. In 2010 he was promoted to the rank of Inspector of Police and serves as the Deputy Commander of patrol. Inspector Hagen serves as a Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) Instructor to develop and implement dispersed leadership training within the Milwaukee Police Department. He is the Executive Officer of MPD's crisis negotiator team and serves as a Director with the Wisconsin Crisis Negotiators Association. Inspector Hagen is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police (Boston, 2009), University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course (Louisville, 2004), and Northwestern University Center for Public Safety’s Executive Management Program (Evanston, 2000). He holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice (1995) and a Master's Degree in Public Service (1998). Blending academics with activity, Inspector Hagen has been awarded over 50 Merit Arrest Citations, a Chief’s Superior Achievement Award, and numerous other recognitions for law enforcement activities. John's wife, Michelle, is the principal of Alexander Mitchell School. They have two daughters. |
