Kait Kingston-Eckman

Artistic Director & Lead Voice Teacher, The Performer Studio

I offer professional training for singers, private voice lessons, group voice classes, Professional Singers Academy. I help singers compete in the music industry, for American Idol, and on Broadway. I am a full-time vocal and performance coach and the lead singer/co-songwriter and recording artist with the band Light Vizion. I have extensive teaching experience with all ages, and haveoperated The Performer Studio since 1997. I taught in performing arts schools, university music and theatre departments, as well as in the public and private school systems. I hold a B.F.A. in Acting from the Actor Training Program at the University of Utah. I received my M.F.A from San Diego State University where I completed my degree in Musical Theatre Performance. While completing my Masters' degree, I was a two-time recipient of the Marion Ross Scholarship for excellence as a performer. After moving to Los Angeles in 1999, I studied voice with world-renowned teacher, Edward Sayegh (studio vocal coach to pop music producer/songwriter, David Foster). I received most of my vocal technique from Mr. Sayegh, learning the foundations of voice building. I then went on to train with other Hollywood vocal and performance coaches, broadening my training to include physical awareness through the Alexander Technique, performance coaching, audience interaction, microphone and recording technique and physical liberation through song. I performed and recorded with several professional bands while in the Los Angeles area, including my own blues/rock band, “The Kait Kingston Band,” and performed at such LA venues as The Derby, BB Kings and The Blue Cafe . I also had the opportunity to perform with such great blues artists as John Lee Hooker Jr. (joining John as a featured soloist on part of his U.S. Tour) and Linda Hopkins (Tony Award-winner) in a special cabaret evening through the Cinegrill Spotlight in Hollywood. In addition, I had the pleasure of privately coaching some of my own favorite television stars while in L.A. including John Stamos and Kristy McNichol. In 2004 I relocated to Salt Lake City, where I was born and raised. I was first introduced to the world of performing by my mother and father, both professional modern dancers. While in Salt Lake as a child, I performed as a featured soloist with both the Children's Dance Theater and the Repertory Dance Theatre (local and international touring company member). While completing my B.F.A. at the University of Utah's Theatre Department, I also worked with the Salt Lake Acting Company, Salt Lake Shakespeare and Plan-B Theater Company. In the summer of 2004, I was invited to return to Salt Lake to headline with her band in the local Brown Bag Concert Series and also at the Sun and Moon Cafe. I was also cast as a featured vocalist in the Ririe Woodbury Dance Company production of "Voices" in the Fall of 2005. After some consideration, I felt drawn to return to my artistic roots in Salt Lake City to continue both my music and teaching career.
