Owner of Maters & Hermsen, a company in corporate journalism. We produce around 50 corporate publications (employee magazines, customer magazines, e-zines etc.). Offices in Leiden (headoffice), Zwolle and Den Bosch. We employ over 50 people like journalists and designers. Also trainings in corporate journalism. Started in 1993 with co-owner Fred Hermsen. My focus is on the development of strategic and creative media concepts for clients, training, and taking initiatives for new products and services. Our media have won many national and international prizes.
Founder of the Vakgroep Bedrijfsjournalistiek (corporate journalism) of Logeion, the Dutch national association of communication professionals. We organise a.o. the Dutch Grand Prix Corporate Magazines, studies on corporate journalism, meetings, a yearly congress etc.
Member of the Beroepenveldcommissie of the Fontys Hogeschool Journalistiek. One of the four academies for journalism in The Netherlands and my former school. This committee consists of representatives from different media such as newspaper, magazine, television, internet. It discusses with management of the academy the outline of its curriculum in order to prepare the students the best way possible for their professional carreers.
Member of the Leiden City of Communication (Leiden Communicatiestad) Foundation i.o. Took the initiative to raise a House of Communication in Leiden, a office complex for businesses and educational institutes in the field of communications. Developed the concept in which working, living, education and recreation are mixed in an inspiring way. Phase I (4000 m2) is due to be opened Feb. 2008 in Nieuwe Energie, an old converted textile mill. Opening of phase II (12.000 m2) is scheduled for 2011 in de Meelfabriek, an old flour factory that will be rebuilt completely under supervision of the famous Swiss architect Peter Zumthor.
