Olaf Schnapauff is the Chief Technologist - Strategy for Suns Vodafone Account, globally. He is responsible for the technical strategy in our business with Vodafone, driving business development and deals wordwide. He is also a Sun Microsystems Principal Engineer, a global technology leadership position, and a Datacenter Ambassador.
His responsibility spans across all layers of IT and Telco infrastructure, Handsets and Terminal/Java strategies and covers Vodafone and affiliates across the globe.
Olaf is the global lead technologist for strategic topics for Vodafones business unit executives, responsible for defining business need and requirements, to IT executives responsible for technical direction and decisions on architectural standards, and to the Sun account team on customer's architectural direction.
He is responsible for influencing the customer on selection of open-systems technologies utilizing Sun's service-driven architectures. This responsibility typically spans all layers of IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networking, applications and operations.
Olaf is an advisor to the customer architecture teams in mapping both short and long term business requirements into an enterprise technology strategy. He teams with the customer architecture teams and Sun Business Units to create specific solution architectures with support the enterprise technology strategy.
Previous focus areas include the Service Optimized Datacenter and technologies to implement it, like N1 Grid, Availability and High End Systems, as well as strategic topics like next generation systems and the Sun-Fujitsu and Microsoft Alliances.
Olaf came to Sun in 1999, starting his career in the High End Systems and Vodafone Teams and in 2001 joined the newly created Datacenter Practice and moved to the Global Datacenter Practice, CTO Office in 2004, and back to the Global Vodafone CEM team end of 2005.
He is a Computer Science Diploma graduate (Master of Science equivalent in Germany) with honors from Technical University Braunschweig (Germany) and Utah State University.
