I have a Masters in Cognitive Psychology and work as an Addictions Therapist and as a Certified Equine Assisted Therapist II that has been in the field of Chemical Dependency for over 18 yrs. In fact, I Co-owed a Treatment Center for 9 yrs in Huntington Beach called Seacliff Recovery with my ex-husband. We sold that in 2003. Incredibily in 2000, I started the Pegasus Program, which is still going on today and has even expanded. Moreover, I am the CEO and Founder of Pegasus ECT; NACPET, Inc. (National Association of Certified Professional of Equine Therapy); CTHA (The Certified Therapy Horse Association); and Centaur University, Inc., which is the school for Behavioral Sciences and soon for Equine Studies and Therapy!

This University is growing by leaps and bounds; and we just opened the doors Feb. 23, 2009! We are ready for WASC candidacy this spring. Likewise this spring, we are starting our Fast Track MFT Program....Wow..It is going to be the shortest MFT program available (can't say..it's a secret), In class of course. On-line will, obviously, take longer. Currently, we have an Elite Chemical Dependency Counselor Program that has been beyond what I dreamed. Fask Track as well...12 weeks + Practicum and Internship, which is located at our Costa Mesa campus for In Class. And On-line, happens in your home....lol...Nevertheless, it does take 6 months because we take in to account that many individuals work that choose the internet for school. Therefore, the classes are in the evenings, only 3 nights a week. But there is a catch, it is with a live Instructor! Students are in class, but on line. They get to see, and communicate, not only with the Instructor, but with the other Students. All class sizes are kept small (8 On-line and 12 In-Class )to maintain the highest learning/synthesizing and interpersonal experience that is necessary for the calibur of Students that we produce! Our Students are ready to perform as CD Counselors in their Internships, so please use them...as such. In fact, the majority of our Students are placed in Paid Internships because of their displayed competencies with their knowledge, skills and attitudes in each of the 8 Practice Dimentions. Oh, did I say that I teach the Practicum Class! I have been teaching for over 5 years and I love it... Visit: www.centauruniversity.com for more info on fees and registration.

This is a fairly new Residential Adolescent Treatment Center; however, it doesn't feel that way. Of course, I wouldn't expect Jamison Monroe to do it any other way! In fact from day one, it was running pretty smooth...The staff are delightful and professional to work with. And, any suggestions or ideas have been workable with such a dynamic team. The Equine Program is Premier becasue it is completely ran by Pegasus ECT. I believe it is because of the respect and confidence they have in Pegasus, as well as their own Staff. The horses are Certified or in the process of Certification through CTHA...making them Interns...lol.. and all the Equine Staff are certified through NACPET! This will be the first facility, on-site, that will; eventually, receive their Dual Accreditation through NACPET and CTHA, which means Certified Staff and Certified Therapy Horses in use for their Equine Program! Anyway, I enjoy it! I facilitate Equine Therapy Groups x1 to x3 wkly, which includes family every 4 to 6 wks.

“The National Association of Certified Professionals of Equine Therapy (NACPET, Inc), founded as an non-profit in 2008, is the ONLY Board that certifies equine assisted counselors and therapist (CEAC/CEAT), which includes specialized horse professionals/equine specialist (CES). Each professional works directly with people of all ages to encourage the growth and development with the effectiveness of a short-term and intensive therapeutic modality, which is documented thoroughly and supervised by the Board. Most importantly, these professionals are held to, and demonstrate the highest standards in experience, training, safety, continued education, and ethics in the field of equine assisted psychotherapy/equine facilitated therapy (EAP/EFT).” The organization is very simuliar to CAADAC, CAADE and/or more like the BBS. The Board does NOT train, it ensures that all training is completed at an approved school/training facility. Visit: www.nacpet.org to download an appropriate certification manual for all the details.
Balboa Horzons Treatment for Women

This is another Women's facility that I have a great deal of respect for because they all around good people. Moreover, they are willing to impliment new techniques when suggested. They are about the development of a program that works! Unfortunately there are times, that other Facilities have fallen in to that horrible trap of being so focused on designing something that looks/sounds good on paper/internet/phone; thus, the clients may not receive intended services. Nevertheless with Balboa, I come on-site to see individual clients when schedule allows for Individual Addiction Therapy. Focusing mostly on, DBT, Energy Psychology and Spiritual Objective Perception Therapy. Educational/Experiential Group x1 wkly; and an occational Equine Therapy Group and/or Individual referral. I am also available to Balboa for Consutation, when needed.
Safe Harbor Treatment Center for Women

I have been with Safe Harbor and Velvet from the start..I knew and referred to Velvet, years before Safe Harbor. I would utilize her Sober Living for some of my most difficult Clients. She was their last stop; and on many occastions, these Young Ladies would make a 180. So, there is something magical that happens with her energy and female Clients. And this women's facility, has the highest success rate for the lowest cost available! I respect Velvet; and a large part of that comes from her commitment to truly helping Women in Recovery. Of course, I am no longer the Clinical/Program Director. I did that for a year before moving on to help another Women's Treatment Center get started as their Clinical Director for 2.5 years. Nevertheless, I remained available to Safe Harbor for consultation, when needed. I continued to facilitate my Experiential and Expressive Play Group x1 wkly; and met with referred Clients, via my Private Practice for Individual Addiction Therapy and/or Equine Therapy. And because of my respect for Velvet and her program, I haven't stopped. Somehow, I have been able to keep it in my schedule.

"CTHA, which is The Certified Therapy Horse Association, establishes and upholds professional guidelines, standards and practices that protect and recognize horses working the field of equine therapy. While providing for the humane treatment of therapy horses through consistent training, supervision and documentation, we also strive to uphold the highest level of safety and ethics; in order to, ensure the appropriate standard of care for clients who are seeking physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth." CTHA is also Non-Profit; however, we do train...because the liability has and continues to be an issue! It is a very in-depth process to get your horses Certified as Therapy Horses. The Board protects the clients, the facilitators, the facilities, the horses, and even the public! Changing mind-sets, is a process when it comes to certifying therapy horse; however, the benefits are and will continue to be huge.....for everyone! please see www.ctha.us in order to review the certification process by downloading the manual.
