Professional Summary
Bud Perry started his design career while working with PayLess Drug stores as a Senior Store Planner in 1986. PayLess Drug Stores was based in Oregon and was the largest privately owned and operated drug store chain in the world. Bud was responsible for store layout and decor, as well as fixture design and layout. His design for the Beverly Hills location is pictured in Charles Broudy's "Time Saver Details for Store Planning.
Next, Bud expanded his knowledge base at United Grocers of Oregon. Here he was responsible for working with member owners to develop store designs, planning all aspects of store layout and decor, as well as coordinating fixture and equipment suppliers.
In 1993, Bud became part of a seven-person team at Commercial Design Systems of Wilsonville, Oregon. The small design firm was founded as a sign manufacturer, but grew to encompass fixtures and store decor. As the company grew to over 50 people, Bud became the Chief Designer, overseeing a staff of designers, illustrators and drafters. One of his projects for Nature's Fresh Northwest-now owned by Wild Oats-was awarded Store of the Year, in the grocery category, by VM+SD. In addition, Bud designed four private residences in the Pacific Northwest that were constructed between 1985 and 1990.
In order to expand his knowledge base, Bud relocated to Cleveland, Ohio and began working for KA, architecture. This afforded him the opportunity to broaden his understanding of construction and engineering, while maintaining his focus on commercial interiors. Bud became the founding principal of Great Lakes Design in 2006.
