Ross is an experienced board member and organisational strategist. On 31 July 2008, he concluded a seven year term as Chairman of the Crown Health Financing Agency, a Crown Entity that provides debt funding (currently totalling $1.5 billion) for the capital investment projects of District Health Boards in New Zealand, and also advises them on asset and property management. In a farewell letter, the Minister of Health commented “The CHFA has evolved under your leadership into the lean, sophisticated and professional entity it is today”.
He provides independent advice to Boards on improvements to governance arrangements, and mentoring advice to chief executives in the State sector. He is currently engaged by private sector companies as adviser on building closer relationships with the Government in order to advance their business objectives. Ross is currently a director on the New Zealand Board of MedTech Global Ltd, a listed Australasian company that specializes in software for the primary health sector and a director of Software Escrow Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the NZ Computer Society.
