Professional Summary
Bishop Kevin Jevon Chambers was born November 9, 1970 to the union of Nathaniel and Gloria Chambers in Chicago IL., the oldest of four siblings and received his formal education in the parochial school systems in the city of Chicago IL.
Being spiritually nurtured at the First Church of Deliverance under the pastorates of the late Reverend Clarence H. Cobbs and Reverend Eugene D. Gray, in 1986, Kevin was selected as one of the "100 Outstanding Christian Men in the Midwest" and in 1988 Kevin was selected as one of the "25 Outstanding Christian Talented Men in the Midwest." Both awards were given by the Midwestern Baptist Laymen's Fellowship.
In 1990 Kevin was added to the body of Christ at the Temple of St. Jude Spiritual Church of Christ (Detroit MI) under the pastorate of Archbishop Arthur L. Posey, where he faithfully served as an Acolyte. In 1992 shortly after receiving his First Time Preaching License by the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc., Minister Chambers served as Pulpit Assistant at the Good Shepherd Church (Grand Rapids MI) under the pastorate of Bishop William Ozier. In 1994 after receiving his ordination, Reverend Chambers returned full-time back at the Temple of St. Jude Spiritual Church of Christ (Detroit MI) and in 1995 took on the responsibility as Youth Pastor of the church, Treasurer of the Minister's Board and served as the Apostolic Adjutant to Archbishop Posey.
In 1998, Bishop William Ozier (Diocesan Prelate), appointed Reverend Chambers Interim Pastor at St. Matthew's Temple-Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ. The congregation and church officials were so impressed with his service, conduct and leadership that they unanimously elected him to be their Senior Pastor and he was installed on the 8th of August 1999. While becoming acquainted with new pastoral responsibilities, Bishop Freddie Simmons (Diocesan Prelate) then appointed Pastor Chambers as State Superintendent for the Third Episcopal Diocese of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc.
In July 2002 at the 77th Annual Convention of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Pastor Chambers was given sacred orders to be elevated to the bishoprick. On November 8, 2002 at St. Mary's Temple of Peace (Grand Rapids MI) Bishop (Elect) Chambers was conferred and consecrated to the sacred office of Bishop. Bishop Chambers served as Diocesan Prelate for the Third Episcopal Diocese of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc., from 2002 - 2006.
Bishop Chambers is the Founder and Executive Director of Benigno Agape (Benevolent Love Outreach) a non-profit organization. In February 2002, Benigno Agape opened its Food Bank and Clothes Rack for the first time. Their goal is to feed some 10,000 homes within the year and to clothe the naked. The mission of Benigno Agape is to provide a continuum of care that begins at each individual's point of immediate need and moves them along with appropriate resources from Crisis through Recovery and Discipleship to Integration back into family and society. Bishop Chambers hopes to build strategic partnerships with complementary community organizations for the further education, job training, health-care and other long-term needs and with local churches for their ongoing spiritual development.
Bishop Chambers' model of compassion is Jesus Christ. When He lived on earth, He (Jesus) reached out to the poor and hurting and taught His followers to do likewise. Christ told us in Matthew 25 that His true followers would have a concern for the needy: to visit the sick, clothe the naked and feed the hungry. He said that whenever we show compassion to the "least" of these we are in fact doing it unto Him.
In December 2004, the Lord led Bishop Chambers to change the name of our church from St. Matthew’s Temple- Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ to Pentecostal Spiritual Assemblies of Christ – International. This name change was birthed out of the need for spiritual oversight, integrity and accountability. The Pentecostal Spiritual Assemblies of Christ – International is Pentecostal by birth; Spiritual by lifestyle; Apostolic by experience and Christian by demand.
In April 2005, Bishop Chambers was recommended for his faithfulness to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, for the work of the ministry and dedication to the body of Christ in his local assembly and community, by the Faculty and Board of Directors of the Urban Harvest Bible Institute & Seminary, Indianapolis IN, and was conferred upon an honorary Doctorate of Divinity, with all rights and privileges appertaining thereto. Also in this same year Bishop Chambers was appointed to serve as Vice President of the International Harvest of the Apostolic Joint College of Bishops by Bishop T. W. French, Sr., Ph.D., President
In January 2006, Bishop Chambers after hearing from God and answering the call to serve in another vineyard, Bishop Chambers resigned his post as Senior Pastor of the Pentecostal Spiritual Assemblies of Christ - Intl., and now faithfully serves under the leadership of Apostle Paul A. Southerland as the resident pastor of the Redeeming's World Church of Hammond.
Bishop Chambers shares his many accomplishments, dreams and futuristic vision with his wife, Lady Harnell, his sons De’Ante, Branden and daughter Semaja. Bishop Chambers is truly a dedicated man of God. Faithful and true to his calling, standing firmly on the Word of God and affirms with conviction that, "No weapon that is formed against thee shall not prosper; and every tongue that riseth against thee in judgment, thou shalt condemn…"
