Professional Summary
After graduating from Stanford University, Steve spent five years as an officer in the U.S. Navy including three tours to Vietnam. He then earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and joined Hewlett-Packard, where he worked as controller / finance manager for a number of divisions including workstation manufacturing, printers*, and enterprise software. Steve also led an HP-wide project to revolutionize the the decision-making process for the worldwide pricing of HP products.
Steve left HP to become CFO of Telectronics, a $200 million medical device company with worldwide operations, that was later acquired by St. Jude Medical. He then accepted the position of CFO with New Era of Networks, an enterprise software company that grew from $7m to $200m in revenue before being acquired by Sybase. At New Era, Steve coordinated the company's IPO, two follow-on financings, and several acquisitions. After New Era, Steve was recruited to lead the IPO for a medical device company, HealtheTech, which was ultimately sold to a European entity.
Subsequently, Steve served on the board of Apropos Technology, where he headed the audit committee and the "special committee" that ultimately found a buyer for the company.
Today Steve takes on periodic consulting assignments and Steve and his wife, Janice, run a small Thoroughbred breeding and racing business. (The horses are all in Kentucky.) Steve and Janice recently relocated from their longtime Colorado residence to Kamuela, Hawaii (Big Island).
* Steve likes to tell the (true) story that the first inkjet printers were introduced by his division in Vancouver, Washington... and the inkjet cartridiges at the time were manually filled with ink by two workers in a clean room using hypodermic needles!
