Starting in the building industry (building materials and element like installation floors and suspended ceilings), I spent about 12 years in the telecoms industry both, on infrastructure supplier side (Nokia) as well as with a full service network operator (diAx and Sunrise). Having seen and worked in as diverse environments as sales, marketing, customer service, teaching & training, accounting, and network operations in three countries -- Germany, Finland, and Switzerland -- the next logical step was to join an international team of professionals that helps companies to improve their business processes. I joined such a company (IDS Scheer) and spent 10 months of the first year on an assignment in Saudi Arabia in a super large-scale supply chain management project (SABIC) with the purpose of process improvement and re-design for the chemical and steel industry. I learnt about the upside and downside of consulting: interesting, exciting, frustrating, and sometimes lots of hard work for little recognition. Consulting is nice and not nice, all at the same time. Next stop and current assignment is Axpo Informatik. The job is very similar to what I did before, just that the company is more stable and mature: project management, conceptual design, implementation, consulting, networking -- all in the SAP area.
