He has an extensive publishing record in philosophy and in the scholarship of teaching and learning, including recent publications on learning assessment, developing social capital within academic communities, and administrative and academic structures in for-profit and not-for-profit institutions of higher learning. Carpenter has received four teaching awards from three institutions of higher learning and previously served as a member of the faculty executive committee at Antioch College, as the president of the faculty senates of Kaplan University and Ellis University, and as the director of Ellis University’s Center for Teaching and Learning.
