Cam Battley

Cam Battley is a health care industry management consultant. He combines experience in government, health care non-governmental organizations, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, marketing and advocacy, to offer a broad scope of health care management, business development and communication skills, spanning all therapeutic categories. His North American, European and African clients range from health professional and patient NGOs, to innovative and generic pharmaceutical firms, and biotechnology and medical device companies. Cam also specializes in providing direct practice development, communications and educational support to leading medical specialists in a variety of disciplines. He has coordinated the recruitment and placement of a number of senior executives in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.

Before founding Health Strategy Group in 1997, Cam was Vice President of Canada’s largest health care communications firm, providing clients with integrated strategies designed to position companies and charitable organizations, manage crises, support opinion leaders, educate patients, and gain and maintain medicine reimbursement. In addition, he has been the architect of pharmaceutical and biotech industry efforts to protect intellectual property laws.

Prior to moving to consulting, Cam worked for the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company. He was Director of Communications for the Canadian affiliate, responsible for all corporate and product communications, including the Prozac file. Cam arrived in the pharmaceutical industry after serving as Legislative Assistant to the Canadian Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, where he was responsible for developing legislation and shepherding it through the House of Commons, as well as negotiating with stakeholder groups and opposition parties. A highlight of his government service was his role in the design and introduction of Bill C-91, which for the first time granted full 20-year protection for pharmaceutical patents.

Cam is also the founder of Wind Gage Communications, Inc., a multimedia software company. He speaks frequently before select groups of health charity leaders, health care professionals and health industry executives in the United States, Canada and Europe. He is active in supporting several North American health charity groups, is a member of the Board of Campaign For Cancer (South Africa), and a past member of the Board of the Osteoporosis Society of Canada.
