Inimate Limited
Seattle

Professional Summary

I enjoy web programming and working with talented, energetic people who are actually interested in what they do.

I specialize in architecting complex, data driven, scalable network applications.

I balance innovation and new technologies with tried and true engineering methods. I program to the nature of a problem as opposed to the specific need of the moment. To me, this is what elegant programming is all about. This approach has resulted in applications that have exceeded their initial goals.

I have experience architecting and coding large and small applications, from complex build systems to simple websites.

I am proficient with database design, web protocols, build procedures and revision control applications. Though I prefer to work in Python, I am open to working in other contemporary languages.

My passion is the Internet and web technologies. I code for all modern browsers using open-standard based platforms such as LAMP and Django.

I prefer to work on a small team in an environment that promotes cross discipline communication.

My specialties include: Python, CSS, HTML, Django, Automation, Scripting, Mac, Linux, Unix, SQL, Subversion and Perforce.

I wish I had a dollar for how happy I feel.

Work Experience

Seattle Times / Software Engineer
2008 - Present
Inimate Limited / Founder, Head of Development
2001 - Present
Founded the company to facilitate and automate community-centered websites. All web applications are written in-house. Two Content Management Systems were created, the first in PHP (codename SugarCane) and the second using Python with Django (codename Spewn). A reciprocal link tracking web application was also written using Django (codename BuddhaThumb).

I designed and managed all projects. Inimate Limited had two employees, other than myself: a programmer (Bryan Newman) and a graphic designer (Laura Shumacher). We also enlisted the advice of consultants where necessary.

The flagship product of the company is MilkandCookies.com, followed by DevilDucky.com, PistolWimp.com and SugarJar.com.
Adobe Systems / Software Engineer
2001 - 2007
Architected, created and maintained a cross-platform, data driven, scalable release engineering tool called Overmind. Used by the Core Technology group and later adopted by Core Services.

After the project hit maturity, it was integrated into an existing in-house networked task management application that I took over and extended.

Features included:
o XML configuration
o Object oriented design
o Cross platform (Mac, Windows, Linux, multiple Unix)
o Networked (server/worker model)
o Scalable (new products/hardware still being added)
o Perforce driven (triggered by relevant code submissions)
o Web interface (start build, stop build, tracking, results, logs, etc)
o SQL backend
o Opt-in pass/fail email notifications (pass, fail)

Product is still in use today.
LizardTech / Software Engineer
1997 - 2001
I was their third employee. As the company grew I wore many hats: Programmer, Development, Tech Support, Customer Service, Project Manager, Web Designer, and Systems Administrator.

As the company grew, these jobs were offloaded to new hires and I funneled my efforts into automating the release engineering process.

Adobe Systems / Technical Support
1994 - 1997
Started with PageMaker, then Photoshop, then Tier 2 Photoshop support. I researched issues and authored many troubleshooting documents.
