Asia’s smallest fine art gallery nurturing promising artists all year through, inducting a handful of them into the professional scenario every year
Resumo profissional
“When the seed is sown, it is the culmination of long years of conceptualising. When the tree begins to gradually grow, with caring and affection akin to a neonate, every milestone becomes a moment to cherish, every year marks new growth”
Pradarshak has been acclaimed as the smallest gallery of fine art in India and perhaps Asia. Translated 'Exhibitor', it was created on the 9th of June 1994 as a humble effort dedicated to upcoming artists encouraging them to aspire and reach out to a wider audience. Consequently, the little gallery has become a successful launching platform and takes pride in its artists who are today a part of the established cadre; some of them, part of the international scenario.
The gallery takes immense pride in its activities and is constantly working on perfecting its annual signature events:
• Introducing new artists into the professional scenario – The beginning of each calendar year marks the debut solo exhibitions of promising artists.
• Vidyarthi Vishesh – the Student Special Exhibition featuring works of students from fine art schools all over Maharashtra. Two months of the year are devoted to this exhibition where architects, corporates and individuals step outside their realm of inhibitions and take home absolutely affordable art by the emerging artists of tomorrow.
• Works of contemporary, little known and well-known artists are exhibited all year around with the focus on quality.
• The gallery also hosts various workshops that enhance a truly aware art culture.
Pradarshak has been the venue for over 350 shows till date. Spread over just 60 sq. ft. carpet, it is located in Mumbai's suburban Khar, just off the famous Linking Road in Bandra.
It is jointly run by husband-wife duo Lalit and Savitha Hira; the former an interior and furniture designer with over two decades of practise and the latter a design writer. Thus, the ethos of a space and its unspoken nuances are well comprehended and translated into the realm of a highly sensitised aesthetic by both. It is soundly backed by the honorary services of a few chosen stalwarts from the field of fine art.
The last fourteen years have established a committed relationship with many an artist of repute and an exceptional rapport with the elite connoisseurs of art. A small beginning has led to a very large family and today the name Pradarshak is synonymous with quality.
“There will always be a sliver of light on the horizon." At Pradarshak, it is firmly believed that one must reach for that light.
