Exporting Contacts to Other Address Books


Exporting to Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002, XP, or 2003

To transfer information from your Plaxo Online Address Book to Microsoft Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002, XP or, 2003, first export information from your Plaxo Online Address Book:

  1. Sign in to Plaxo Online, then click on "Contacts."
  2. Click the "Export" link on the top right of the Contacts page.
  3. Check the contact folders that you want to export.
  4. Select "Microsoft Outlook (.csv file)" from the pull-down menu and click "Export."
  5. When prompted, specify a convenient location and enter a name for the .csv file in the "Save As" dialog box. Press "Save." The Comma Separated Values (.CSV) file generated in the process can be read by Outlook.

Next, import the saved file into Outlook:

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002, XP, or 2003.
  2. Open the "File" menu and select "Import and Export."
  3. Select "Import from another program or file" and click "Next."
  4. Select "Comma Separated Values (Windows)" and click "Next."
  5. Enter the location and name of the .CSV file you wish to import, or use the "Browse" button to select the file to import.
  6. Select "Do not import duplicate items" (or one of the other options) and click "Next."
  7. Select the "Contacts" folder and click "Next."
  8. Make sure to check the box next to the file you wish to import, and then click "Finish" to import your chosen file.

Exporting to Mac OS X Address Book

To transfer contact information from your Plaxo Online address book to Mac OS X Address Book, first export your contact data from your Plaxo Online address book.

  1. Sign into Plaxo Online, then click on "Contacts."
  2. Click the "Export" link on the top right of the Contacts page.
  3. Check the contact folders that you want to export.
  4. Select "vCard (.vcf file)" from the pull-down menu and click "Export."

Depending on your web browser, a file named "plaxo_ab_vcard.vcf" will be downloaded to your default download location.

  1. Open Address Book version X.0 or greater.
  2. Drag the file you exported from Plaxo Online into the main window. (Doing this will import the file.)
